چکیده

Using the Haystack Observatory 37-m radio telescope we have undertaken a search for emission in the 20 −31 E rotational transition of methanol in its first torsionally excited state (vt = 1) at 44.9 GHz. We examined seven galactic sources – six strong emitters of Class II methanol maser lines and Orion KL, the only source where this line had been previously detected. We confirm (at a level of 5σ) the previous detection and report two new detections – a reliable (9σ) detection in W3(OH) and a marginal (3.5σ) detection in NGC 6334F. Upper limits for other sources are presented. Although we did not see obvious signatures of maser amplification in this transition in any source, arguments in favor of weak masing in W3(OH) are presented.

The 6.7-GHz and 25-GHz methanol masers in OMC-1

The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) has been used to search for methanol maser emission at 6.7 GHz towards OMC-1. Two features peaking at 7.2 km s and −1.1 km s have been detected. The former has at least two components close in both velocity and position. It is located south-east of the Orion Kleinmann-Low (Orion-KL) nebula in the region of outflow traced by the 25-GHz methanol masers...

Search for class II methanol masers at 23 . 1 GHz

In the early days of methanol maser discoveries the 9 2 − 10 1 A + transition at 23.1 GHz was found to exhibit maser characteristics in the northern star-forming region W3(OH), and probable maser emission in two other sources. Attention subsequently turned to the 6.6-GHz 5 1 − 6 0 A + methanol maser transition, which has proved a valuable tracer of early high-mass star formation. We have undert...

A MERLIN Study of 6 GHz Excited - state OH & 6 . 7 GHz Methanol Masers in ON 1

MERLIN observations of 6.668-GHz methanol and both 6.031and 6.035-GHz hydroxyl (OH) emission from the massive star-formation region ON1 are presented. These are the first methanol observations made in full polarization using 5 antennas of MERLIN, giving high resolution and sensitivity to extended emission. Maser features are found to lie at the southern edge of the ultra-compact HII region, fol...

Pumping of Class II methanol masers

We present large velocity gradient (LVG) model calculations which explain the observed intensities (> 1012 K) of the 51−60 A+ methanol line at 6 GHz, which is the brightest of the strong Class II methanol masers. Our model of radiative transfer in the maser source was described in the first paper of this series devoted to the excitation of the 20−3−1 E transition at 12 GHz (Sobolev & Deguchi, 1...

Discovery of molecular hydrogen line emission associated with methanol maser emission

We report the discovery of H2 line emission associated with 6.67-GHz methanol maser emission in massive star-forming regions. In our UNSWIRF/AAT observations, H2 1–0 S(1) line emission was found associated with an ultracompact H II region IRAS 14567–5846 and isolated methanol maser sites in G318:95–0:20, IRAS 15278–5620 and IRAS 16076–5134. Owing to the lack of radio continuum in the latter thr...
